    LaBelle City Dock

De Soto Ave, LaBelle, FL 33935

    About this Stop

The silhouette of the twisting, turning Caloosahatchee can be seen at the City Dock. This bend is a remnant of the original form of the river before it was straightened and canalized in the late 1930's. This spot was the landing where steamboats would stop in Labelle. At the water's edge are 3 posts with rusted fittings and horizontal piling. This is all that is left of the swing bridge built in 1910. At the other end of the dock is an experimental steam engine from the yacht, the Navette. There are 3 others of this type. Two are at the Herrshoff museum in Rhode Island and the other is at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
