Rooted in Community: A Spotlight on the LaBelle Garden Club

    Back to News

From beautifying our downtown planters to growing an educational garden in the heart of LaBelle - the Garden Club is quietly shaping the city we love.

There is a quiet kind of work that makes a town beautiful, a steady, patient tending that happens season after season, often without fanfare. In LaBelle, that work belongs to the LaBelle Garden Club.

The LaBelle Garden Club is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to cultivating community pride through horticulture, conservation, and civic beautification. Members share a deep love for plants, the natural environment, and the idea that where we grow things, we grow community. Whether you are a longtime member or a curious neighbor who admires the blooms around town, the Garden Club's fingerprints are everywhere.

Growing Something Special Behind the Gallery

One of the most exciting ongoing projects the Garden Club has taken on is the development of a community garden behind the Arts of the Inland Gallery, located at the heart of downtown LaBelle. This space is being cultivated not just as a garden, but as a living extension of the arts and culture that the Gallery represents, a place where beauty is grown, shared, and tended by community hands.

The LDRC had the privilege of visiting the garden recently during the dedication of a newly placed fountain, a beautiful milestone for this growing space. Seeing the garden come to life, surrounded by community members who poured their time and care into every corner of it, was a reminder of why this work matters. The LaBelle Educational Garden at 471 N Lee Street is taking shape as a destination in its own right: a welcoming, productive green space that invites residents to slow down, learn, and connect. Projects like this are exactly the kind of investment in place that makes a downtown worth returning to, and they don't happen without volunteers willing to get their hands in the dirt.

A Personal Thank You from the LDRC

The LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation wants to take a moment to sincerely thank the Garden Club for their recent work freshening up our planters along Fort Thompson Avenue. The new plantings are vibrant, welcoming, and exactly the kind of detail that signals to visitors and residents alike that LaBelle takes pride in its downtown.

A special shoutout goes to Ginny and Maribel! Thank you both for your time, creativity, and dedication to making our corridor beautiful. It does not go unnoticed, and it is deeply appreciated. You represent the very best of what community volunteerism looks like.
