The Honey House Mural
Back to Our Projects
Completed: 2015
Location: Harold P. Curtis Honey Co., 335 Bridge Street
The bee mural on the historic Harold P. Curtis Honey Co. building holds a special place in public art history — it was the very first mural in artist Matthew Willey's national initiative, The Good of the Hive, a mission to hand-paint 50,000 honeybees in murals around the world to raise awareness about the struggle of the honeybee.
But this mural is about more than honeybees. It is about what can happen when people connect for a common purpose — the people of LaBelle coming together to breathe new life into their town. The Honey House mural sparked a public art movement in our district, which is now home to five murals, two art galleries, and a community theater.
